This thing we call discipline

Everybody will tell you that you must exercise some discipline to be successful in life no matter what you want to achieve. They are right. You will need it. But it is not only about success, but it is also about integrity, it is about standing your ground and being honest and respectful to yourself. Discipline will support you all the way, all the difficulties you may face in your life. I am pretty sure you will get up and get out of any situation if you cultivate the habit of being disciplined in your actions.

For me, the first act of discipline begins right after I wake up. I express my gratitude for being alive, and right after that, I make my bed. I know that if I do these two things, I have already accomplished something for the day, no matter how it goes after that. If you have worked hard to establish a routine and do not want to lose it, practice discipline when you are feeling weak because it is too late, too early, you are too tired or upset. Switch to discipline modus I guarantee you, you are going to accomplish what you should, and after that, you are going to feel better and surprisingly not tired or upset anymore.

That is precisely the magic of discipline. It makes you do what you really want to do and what you know deep down is the best thing for you to do. That way, you will feel so good and happy. There is an extra bonus when you practice discipline. The act of being disciplined will empower you in ways you didn’t know you could achieve. Yes, it will, and you will love it.

I was just checking my to-do list a few minutes ago to make sure I am keeping up with my new habits and resolutions. Guess what? One of my resolutions for 2020 is to write every day, no matter what. This is something I am modeling from Chris Guillebeau, who writes 1000 words every day. Well, I was feeling so proud I had finished my tasks successfully and was ready for bed, and then there was this unfinished business: I had not written !!!

That was terrible. That was unpleasant. That was uncomfortable. But discipline put me on track again, I opened my eyes and reactivated my brain, sat straight on my chair, turned the laptop on, and began to write. Here I am writing my few hundred words of the day and feeling proud of myself.

It is not easy, but it is possible if you exercise discipline. I would say that is the way you achieve things. More than being talented, knowledgeable, or lucky, if you are disciplined, you will get to the places you want.

How do I exercise discipline? I learned this trick from Mel Robbins. She says that you need only 5 seconds to change a situation in your brain and make that decision, which will improve your game. Something happens in your mind, and it is just 5 seconds. So, when you are feeling weak only count from five to one, and at the moment, you say one out loud take action. Just begin doing it, and for Christ’s sake, do not think about anything else, just do it!

Well, I am done for today. You are on. Let me know what you think.

A good night with a peaceful mind, I did my deed.

Cheers

These are the topics you will expect to see here:

Wellbeing, mindset,
Money-saving and -growing strategies,
Minimalism,
Happiness,
Learning how to learn,
Healthy eating habits
Growing sprouts
And finally, some exciting books, thoughts, and quotes from enlightened people I might find interesting to share with you.

Who am I?

I´m Gloria. Spanish Teacher and Learning Coach. A passionate learner and reader. The topics you read above are the ones that move me every day to my main goal, which is to find a peaceful way to financial freedom and inner peace.
I meditate, walk (power walking), do some kind of yoga to stay flexible, grow most of my food in the kitchen, and live a minimalist lifestyle. I almost forgot to say I love green stuff. I live with a lot of plants and talk to them and with them (I can see the twitch on your face).

I was born and raised in South America, but my soul found peace in Europe, so I live where my soul is at home.

I have a thing for languages. I speak Spanish (born and raised over there), of course, German (Soul is in Vienna at home), of course, Portuguese because I just love it, and Italian because I love Triest. Well, and English, of course, because ... Got the picture?

The following language will be the real challenge (put your seat belt on!) I am going to learn Polish because I have dear, dear friends living in Cracow. As you see, love is a big motivation to learn. That is why I am a teacher.

I am counting on you to walk this way with me.

Cheers,

Gloria
